When a windshield or vehicle window is cracked, shattered, or damaged beyond use, getting the correct replacement matters — and replacement starts with identifying the vehicle and the piece of glass that is damaged.
Because glass can vary by vehicle, having the right details up front can make the quote and replacement process easier. When you contact a glass shop, try to have the year, make, and model of the vehicle ready, along with the location of the damaged glass and a brief description of the damage.
Not sure what the damaged piece is called? That is fine. Windshields, door glass, side window glass, back and rear window glass, quarter glass, vent glass, sunroof glass, and side mirror glass all have their own names — but you can simply describe where the glass is located on the vehicle and the shop can help determine what information is needed.
The same idea applies to RVs and boats, where glass can be even more specialized. For RV glass, the make, model, approximate year, and class or body type help. For boat glass, photos and basic measurements of the opening are especially useful, since marine glass is often custom.
